This week we went to Seaside, OR with our friends, the Simpsons. We rented a cute 4 bedroom house that was less than a block from the ocean. We arrived Tuesday afternoon and after we got settled in we went out to dinner. We ate at a great seafood restaurant and the kids were surprisingly well behaved. Since it was off season we were the only people at the restaurant with kids. (Actually I think we were the only people there under the age of 65.) Dinner was delicious and afterward we had a few people stop to tell us how wonderful and well behaved our children were. We smiled and said 'thank-you' as we tried to pick up all the french fries, crayons, and silverware the kids had thrown on the floor. It was the perfect start to our vacation. After dinner we went back to the house and got the kids in bed. We played games and they jumped on their beds and yelled and screamed. The next few days were full of fun. The kids woke up every morning at about 6:30 or 7 which wasn't too bad. We ate breakfast and played until the men got up and we went on some fun adventures. The first morning we rented a crab pot and caught some crabs. We also went to the park, the beach, Fort Stevens, shopping on main street, and a bounce house play place. Going off season presented some challenges. The weather was sunny but cold the first day and raining the second and third day. They were doing construction on the road in front of the house so we couldn't park in our driveway. Instead we had to park down at the beach and walk back. But, there were no crowds and got to catch some crabs (which isn't allowed June through September) so I would definitely go off season again. Here's some of the highlights.
Adria (7) and Jaxson (6) played a lot of games and Lea (4) and Ehlana (almost 4) played a lot with thier stuffed animals. Baby Jakob wandered around exploring the cupboards and playing with the tv remotes.

On Thursday we went to Fort Stevens to see the ship wreck of Peter Iredale. We told the kids we were going to go inside a big ship that had got stuck on the beach. When we got there we realized it was as the description plaque said, "rather unremarkable."
The rain held off long enough for us to visit a couple look out points. The water was really beautiful and the kids had fun. (Although they don't look like they're having fun when you ask them to pose for a picture.)
While it was raining we did some shopping and rode the carousel.
Seaside is a fun little town. Everyone is really friendly and there is a lot of fun things to do. Thursday night us adults stayed up late and talked, played games, and laughed until we cried. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Friday morning we packed up and went to breakfast at Pig n' Pancake. Their pecan waffles were great. Then we said good-bye and drove home. It was a great little vacation. We will definitely go back again!
