Winter Storm 2012

It started snowing one week ago and then after a few days of snow the snow was covered with ice. By Thursday the kids had been out of school all week and they were climbing the walls. Steve only worked a half day so we braved the icy roads and went to our friend's, the Browers, house to play games and eat dinner. On the way home we were sliding everywhere and most of the traffic lights were out. When we got home our power was out and so we turned on both of our gas fireplaces and got the kids ready for bed. Steve sat in the car and read while he charged his phone and I watched a movie on the laptop until the battery ran out. Our power came back on at 6:30am. Our power was only out for 17 hours. Some of our friends, the Simpsons, were out of power for 5 days. Almost everyone we know lost power for at least a couple days.

By Saturday most of the snow was melted and we went out to dinner. It looked like a tornado had come through. There were trees and branches everywhere. We went to church at a different building on Sunday because the power was still out at our church building. Our little tree in the front our house survived but there were many other trees that didn't.

We are happy that the storm has pasted and that we were not badly effected by it. We have learned how to be better prepared for the future. I am really looking forward to the kids going back to school and getting my routine back. We won't soon forget this storm.

The amount of damage was really shocking! I still can't believe it when I'm out and about. And yes, SOOO thankful it's over!
